Day 7 of the 2024 House Telescope Introduction Calendar
Day 7 of the 2024 House Telescope Introduction Calendar: a supernova seen thrice. NASA’s James Webb House Telescope’s NIRCam seen the galaxy cluster PLCK G165.7+67.0, also called G165. On this picture, a foreground cluster situated 3.6 billion light-years away from Earth is magnifying and bending the sunshine of the distant universe past via gravitational lensing. On this view, astronomers found the sunshine of a supernova imaged thrice, seen as factors of sunshine inside the outstanding pink arc beneath the middle of the picture. To attain three pictures, the sunshine traveled alongside three totally different paths. Since every path had a distinct size, and light-weight traveled on the similar pace, the supernova was noticed on this Webb commentary at three totally different instances throughout its explosion.
